Hello everyone – I have a large banana Wrasse that I have had for about five months. For most of that time I’ve seen him occasionally swipe his head across the sand bed. I gave him two rounds of prazipro when I first got him so I just kind of kept an eye on it. In general I’ve pretty much just thought he was looking for pods. But three days ago I noticed him laying a lot on the sand bed. He was eating and no labored breathing at the time but I could tell something was wrong. In addition to laying on the sand bed he would also be more aggressive to other fish. At this point I figured he might have a parasite or flukes. I dosed my DT with Prazipro and I’m on day three. I’ll plan to do another round here in a few days. But he’s no longer eating and he’s isolating completely now so I’m afraid it is getting progressively worse. I can’t tell if he’s breathing normally because he’s hiding. Anything else I can do for this guy other than just wait?

You could always catch him and conduct a FWD in a dark bucket. If you see flukes in the water after there dip then you know for sure what you're dealing with. Thats probably where I'd start. Prazipro as well as most medication suppress appetite... so that probably explains that. How long has it been since he last ate?

That’s a good idea – I might have to take apart my rock work to catch him but it’s probably worth it. He hasn’t been eating for about a day or a day and a half

Don't worry that isn't long for not eating. Conduct dip and go from there.

Ahhh! I actually think he might be dead! He is way in my rock work but his eyes aren’t moving and his body looks limp. All other fish look good. Flukes wouldn’t have taken him this quickly right??

So I pulled apart my rock work and he isn’t dead but he really is continuing to decline. Take a look y’all and tell me what you see and what you recommend! Treating with prazi pro right now since early six suggested flukes or parasite but he is going down hill fast. He has taken a dramatic decline in about 48 hours. All other fish look OK right now as far as I can tell.

OK – not sure if you all can play the movie. It’s not playing on my side when I’m viewing it on the thread. But here’s what I’m seeing, he’s laying on his side and clearly struggling to swim. He has lost color, doesn’t seem to be laboring in his breathing though.

here is a pic

Unfortunately he is now dead. I did a freshwater dip after he died just to see if I could find any flukes on him. I didn’t see anything come off of him during the freshwater dip. Here’s also a picture of him. No white spots of any kind, at least no visual signs of velvet but I’m wondering if this could have been velvet given how quickly he passed away. All other fish in my tank continue to look fine. No idea what happened to this guy but sad he didn’t make it.
