Wrasse not looking too good

He is not looking too great this morning. Just laying on his side at the bottom. He does not seem to have labored breathing, he just doesn’t want to get up and do anything. Thought he was dead until I roused him and he swam around a bit. Good chance he won’t make it.

are you checking ammonia, etc in the tank? And plenty of oxygen?

Yes, ammonia is 0 per Red Sea kit. He has been in the tank less than 24 hours so I don’t think it has been enough time for an ammonia spike yet.
I also have a powerhead pointed towards the surface in addition to the HOB filter.
when I put a fish in QT or hospital, I usually test the ammonia at least every 12 hours.

Great news! The wrasse is doing much better. He is now swimming normally (still in the hospital tank with Neoplex) and today he greedily ate the frozen food I gave to him. This is day 3 in the tank. He still has the sores, but at least he is not laying on the bottom and he is eating.

So the wrasse is back to his normal active self. However his side is still missing some scales and looks a bit scuffed up. Tomorrow he will have been in the hospital tank for 7 days With Neoplex. Can I go ahead and add him back to the DT, or should I wait until his side has completely healed?

Glad he’s improving. I’d keep him in your hospital tank a little longer to be sure he continues to improve.

That’s news to me. I special ordered him at my LFS and asked for a male Carpenters wrasse.

It was an honest mistake. The way to differentiate a yellowfin flasher from a carpenter’s flasher is the anal fin, it’s all yellow in a yellowfin and a carpenter’s has red in the anal fin.
