Recently my Longnose hawkfish passed away and I’ve noticed an uptick in the amount of hitchhikers my tank has. Looking for a wrasse that can get along with
2 occ. clownfish
1 Pygmy angel
1 Midas blenny
1 flametail blenny
And a wrasse that can handle these hitchhikers

This is a 40 gallon tank

Hesitant to ever recommend one, but in a tank that size a six line might work for you. They turn into real jerks, but would be able to hold their own among your other fish.

A 40 gallon tank is a little on the small side for any well behaved wrasse I know of. The yellow coris wrasse needs a minimum of 55 gallon. The 40 is a shallow tank and my yellow used all of my old 60 gallon and I thought that was small for him.

Was is peaceful?

Was is still peaceful?

I’d only recommend a form of Paracheilinus wrasse at that tank size honestly.

Hunter Hammond (the wrasse guy) says their minimum tank size is around 30 gallons if i remember correctly.

It’s a 40 breeder so 3 feet
A sixline as previously mentioned is a good candidate for your tank size and is a great pest hunter… but there’s a chance later down the road it could turn into a jerk. If you have a sand bed and a lid another good option is a small halichoeres wrasse like halichoeres chrysus aka canary wrasse, it’s also a great pest hunter and stays mild-mannered.

So paracheilinus won’t really eat pests. For a 3ft tank your options are the pink streak or possums but they may be too shy. A lined wrasse of the pseudocheilinus genus which can be very aggressive sometimes but other times can be peaceful. A small halichoeres like a chrysus, iridis, Melanurus etc. Or the last option is a leopard wrasse which can be sensitive and sometimes shy but is good for that size tank.

As for a hawkfish it depends on the pest. They won’t eat anything very small while wrasse will concentrate on the small.
