I’m going to be catching my six line wrasse in the next couple weeks, hopefully. He/she is a beating up my flame goby and is generally a bully. The tank is a 40 long (4ft wide) and I’ll likely be getting a 65-80 in 3 months or so.

Leopard wrasse? Ornate Wrasse, I don’t know?? Here are some that caught my eye. I’d like to replace it with a docile, reef safe, beautiful wrasse. Any recommendations?

The 2 species of tamarin wrasse there are going to out grow your tank, especially the cuvier wrasse if i remember correct the get quite big, however if you get the upgrade id say the yellow tail could live in it, but they are even more delicate than the leopards and need a sand bottom. Leopard wrasses are quite delicate, and require a sand bottom idk if u have this, and need a good pod population to thrive and feedings of at least 3 times a day.
I recommend the possum wrasses, pink streaked wrasse, blue star leopards, radiant wrasse, pintail fairy, mccoskers flasher, but there are so many to chose from lol

I would wait till you upgrade. Leopard and tamarin wrasses are definitely on the more difficult side and moving them more than you have to normally leads to losses. I would look into a melanurus or a flasher wrasse. Most fairy wrasses will grow too big for a 40g

These are some lookers for sure. So all of these would be ok. They wouldn’t bully other fish, fairly easy to keep...tank is about a year and a half old.

My favorite so far are probably the melanarus, potters, the red and blue one??, and the blue star.

Melanurus would be the best all around choice based on cost, color and ease of care. Just be aware they can pick off inverts and can be territorial to others wrasses once established (add other wrasses before them).

+1 on the possum wrasse. I have one in a 13 gallon and he's constantly cruising around the rocks and weaving in and out of the scape. However, he has significantly reduced my pod population because he's constantly snacking on them.

Possum Wrasses are great, but they won't have a presence and visibility in a 65-80 gallon tank that a Melanurus will. Personally I feel the Possum and Pink Streaked are better suited for smaller sized tanks as they stand out more in them.

Those should be fine, just the potters are one of the more difficult leopards from what ive heard, but if you find a healthy eating one im sure it'll be fine. Good luck with whichever one you pick
