While getting my new flasher wrasse out of the bag its mouth got stuck in the net.

Can't cut it loose using a knife or scissors.

Any tips? Will it let go if he eventually relaxes?

Try letting it go in a 5 gallon bucket with some hiding places. See if its less stressed will let go. Without the danger of it hiding in a larger tank. There are ways to sedate a fish, and then place under a scope of magnifying lens making cutting it easier. Could also try without sedation if fish will stay still.

I had this happen to an almost identical wrasse. I'm pretty sure I hurt him getting him off the net, thankfully for me after letting him sit and simply feeding the tank he healed up just fine. He's now swimming strong in my tank everyday, try not to stress him anymore and let him become acquainted to his new environment.

i forget where i read it, but someone was saying that flasher wrasses especially have sharp teeth and will bite into nets, so they were saying to not use nets with fish. i went and bought a couple different sized colanders and have been using those instead

Never use a net with a flasher wrasse, as they oftentimes bite down and won't let go.

I use a colander instead:
