Came home and found my solarensis with his tail really torn up. He was fine last night and this morning. I haven't seen any chasing.

Other fish
3 chromis
Blueside wrasse
Flame hawk

Looks like somebody took some chunks out of his tail. Notice any aggression between him, the other wrasse or the hawkfish? Got any crabs in the tank?

Couple hermits in tank... I haven't noticed any chasing between wrasses they shoo each other away occasionally. The hawk fish doesn't seem interested. He is hanging around the chromis more it seems or maybe I'm just grasping. They do chase each other some.
He seems fine other than the tail. I will keep an eye on him tonight

I've seen hawkfish lunge at and take a bite out of another fish's tail fin.

I've watched them for a good hour and no aggression between the wrasses...maybe something going on at night.
My hawkfish is very active around lights out time.
Going to keep an eye on them tonight.

Makes me think crab or other invert. Any shrimp?

Someone is trying to set the pecking order happened to my coral beauty never found out who it was (think it was my yellow tang) but the bullying stopped and his tail grew back in about 3 months no problems since

I also had my suspicions that it might have had a perisite and my cleaner shrimp picked it off cause he use to go to the shrimp all the time and nothing since..
Hmmmm

Following along as I have a longnose hawkfish pair that pick on every new fish and removed half of a lyretails tail last night! Punks, but I love them.

I saw the hawk fish take a swipe at the wrasse today. Didn't get him but defiantly looks deliberate.
Hopefully he works it out...first I've saw him do it and I've been watching a lot the last day and half.

I think you've found the culprit. ;)

He's on my bad list. First he jumps in overflow last week...now taking shots at my wrasse.
