OK guys I just recently purchased this juvi wrasse from my LFS and wanted to get some feedback on people's wrasse experience...I was told not to buy the melanuras wrasse because they kill snails n crabs.I couldnt resist buying him so now he is currently in my 5 gallon qt with sand bed ...give me some feedback on these wrasses..

Will eat your crabs and snails aggressive eat when feeding will take food out of other fishes mouths. Very active swimmer always looking for food other than that a good fish.

ok good to know kaysneezye..so right now he is in qt ..but soon he will enter my 100 gallon .keep in mind my 100 gallon has a few fish including my other mature leopard wrasse...good combo or riske?

I was told a few months ago that the melenarus wrasses will be fine with leopards.
So I added one and the melenarus hasn't hardly even looked at the leopards.

My Melanurus has trashed any turbo snails and any similar species in my 300gal. He leaves astrea snails alone, and the hermits so far have fared okay (I've had him for a year and a half), and the only other Wrasse he's mixed it up with was the Basket Wrasse (same family) a few times, but overall they coexist well. I have a Leopard Wrasse, a Rosy Margined Wrasse, a Pintail, and an incorrectly identified Exquisite Fairy Wrasse in the same system.

My melanuras doesn't eat my snails, crabs or cleaner shrimp. It is also in the tank with two leopard wrasse and doesn't bother them. I do feed the fish 3 - 4 times a day, so that probably helps with the aggression and him not eating the CUC. I just think every fish is different. Yours might eat everything or might not touch anything at all.

maaaaan...u guys covered alot of ground for this wrasse...makes me way more confident in adding this wrasse to the DT...basically its a gamble to add him but its so hard to resist..he has my favorite color on him...which is forcing me to add him after the 3 week process....i greatly appreciate all the feedback you guys have provided....note: my leopard is much larger than the ML..im sure it wont matter as my leopard dont bother nobody but the sand bed.....lol
