Hello all,

I have had my tank running for 3.5 weeks and a pair of clowns for 2 weeks. I want to add a melanarus wrasse and a bristletooth tang. but a lot of what I read says to add them to a “mature system.” All the other fish I would like to stock also all say “mature system” does this mean I should just keep my clowns in there until I start seeing coralline. I have seeded the tank with plenty of pods and already seeing some algae growth with the begging of a clean up crew. Is there one or the other I can get away with now or should I wait. Advice please and thank you.

I would say write a list of fish you want in your tank which are compatible to your tank size and each other plus other livestock ( I.e cuc)
Then research which is known to be less aggressive to most aggressive, then add one fish every 2-4 weeks ,from least aggressive in tank first to most aggressive last unless one your fish a specific eater like a mandarin or possibly a red scooter blennie that only eat pods for example then these maybe best going in last but use an acliminastion box, reason for this to give tank to mature and be pod heavy unless adding pods regulary and maybe seperate refugium to keep populations up.

As for the tang and melanurus wrasse,I've never had either u fortunately but I'm thinking say mature system for the tang to give chance for algae to grow on rocks for it but can supplement algae sheets / nori if needed and the wrasse never heard that sorry ( but is really late and need sleep lol) But any fish it's best for system to run/ mature for little while before add fish, some fish do better in new tanks than others but just research what you want and add slowly is my opinion.

Good luck ^_^

What wrasses are you looking at? Many will eat frozen and pellet food, but a lot of their diet also consists of microfauna such as pods - even if you're dosing them, they're not established so they won't replenish on their own.

What size is your tank? Do you have a 1.5"-2" sand bed for the wrasse? And yes, I'd probably wait a while longer before adding one or both of these fish (they'll have a larger bio load that the clownfish).
Tank is 4 foot 110 gallon system. Sand bed is 3 “ in most places.
