No one has every told me WHY a lot of wrasses require a sandbed....

Second question..... Im a BB 180g and I have a stupid milky white Tupperware container about 6in x 6in with 3in of sand for a couple of wrasses i have. Its pretty well hidden behind some large boulder sized rocks BUT IF you explore the tamk with your eyes you can SEE about 5% of the stupid container. Question; do they make any STYLISH BLACK containers specifically for holding sandbeds?

.

Specific types of wrasses rest and hide in the sand bed.

Never tried them before but look up ceramic wrasse rocks

Could you get some black acrylic and just fab one?

So eventually without a sandbed they stress out and die?

May injure themselves without a sand bed if they get spooked and decide to try and dash I to the glass. Hardier/easier ones I have seen adjusted in frag tanks but typically not more delicate ones like Tamarins or some leopards.

These are made to hold sand for wrasse and look attractive.

halichoeres, leopards, pencils, and tamarins sleep in the sand and bury when they get scared

Sorta like me running to my Man Cave when I hear the garage door open and wifezilla is home. I don't want to freak out and run straight on into my stainless steel fridge and knock myself out C O L D

There are a few examples of people keeping sand sleeping wrasses without sand for "long term" but it's not common and not a good idea IMO. What kinds of wrasses do you have?
Marble Wrasse, brand new addition.... added that 6inx6in Tupperware bowl with 3in of sand in back of tank. It immediately buried itself a few days ago. like within 60mins of being added to the 180g. Haven't seen it since

Pinkface Wrasse, had it for about a month. I have a HUGE colony of palys that it likes to hide in. Havent seen it for days now since adding the sand container. last time I saw it , it was laying on top of the sand. Not sure where its hiding. Use to come out ad eat huge chunks of mussel meat. Now since sand addition, MIA

Theyre probably both dead since its 2020 and God hates me, lol

My orange back fairy and blue streak cleaner wrasses sleep inside a barnacle, however, my Vrolik’s wrasse loves his sand bed. Mine is 5 inches deep. Check out these videos of him bedding in the sand and waking up. You will see how deep he goes. Very cool to watch. More details under my build thread below.

not sure what the marble wrasse is as that could be a few

the pink face is a thalasomma and not very reef safe, they’ll decimate your cuc and probably mow down a few smallish fish. I forget if they need a sand bed or not
