Hello, I picked up 3 fairy wrasses this past Wednesday and have them in QT. They were great the first day, but all the sudden one started breathing heavily. I tested for ammonia and there seemed to be a little present in the water so I added some prime to drop it down. The following morning I did around 25% water change. That evening the one fish died. I am doing the TTM, So I went ahead and transferred the other two fish into a new tank with new water. The following morning another fish was laying on his side breathing heavily. I feel like I’m going to lose this one too. I don’t see any signs of velvet, brook, or ich. Could it be flukes? Should I try freshwater dipping the one that’s distressed?

What are you using for aeration?

Also, they come by so often I'd wait on one of the known experts, but barring that I think I'd go for the FW dip if no answers soon and you know you have enough aeration. If flukes found then you can deal with that, if none found then you at least give a little reprieve on possible velvet.

Sorry for the losses [emoji20]
Do you have ammonia badges on the tanks?

If have any of the dead fish still, you can do a check of their gills see if there is any damage.

I am sorry for your loss! Just out of curiosity where did your purchase the fish? Online or a LFS? Secondly what was the salinity in the bag compared to your QT tank?

I am using an HOB, and powerhead that is aimed at the surface. I added an air stone when I first started to notice the heavy breathing. I do not have an ammonia badge, but test every day with the red sea kit.

Fish came from a LFS. Salinity was a perfect match.

Gotcha! That rules that out! Hopefully @Humblefish will weigh in! It sounds like you are doing everything right! I am wondering about a possible bacterial infection? Just a thought.....
