I recently purchased a longfin wrasse. It has been in quarantine about 2.5 weeks. For the last few days I have noticed what looked like ich on a fin and its tail. This was not really surprising as one of its tank mates had a severe case. Yesterday I got home from work and the fish was infested but still active. I had been doing hypo and 2.5 gallon water changes daily (10 gallon QT) for the last week. So after reading a LARGE number of posts about copper(cupramine) and wrasse survivability i reluctantly started last night per the directions. For hrs I watched to see if it was reacting negatively. The only sign was initially it seemed startled and hid for 30 minutes or so then business as usual. To my surprise I woke up to a half dead fish heavily labored in its breathing. My knee jerk reaction was to do a 100% water change. I set up my camera and went to work. I have not seen him all day and I do not have high hopes for this fish.

Please advise

Did you go full dose right away? Or did you just dose a little.

With ich, you can slowly bring it up to therapeutic levels. If he makes it through the day, I'd give him a bit to recover, then switch to copper power or copper safe. Then take your timing bringing it up to therapeutic levels.

Makes sense, I did go full dose per the bottle. I feel terrible because I assume it would have survived certainly long enough for me to try something else.

Has anyone had success with hypo and a cleaner shrimp? certainly the more natural approach

Cleaner shrimp won't help. The trophont (feeding stage) of ich is under the skin.

Hypo can work well if you are diligent about managing the salinity. It needs to be measured accurately and kept at a certain level.

Tank transfer method works really well in my experience.
