Anthias require more feeding than wrasses do. Fatheads are shy and usually hide and don’t eat.

I’ve been wanting a pair of vantralis been scared to pull the trigger because how finicky they are! How was yours in qt?

I dont QT. I run a UV when needed and yes ich is in my tank. I originally bought 2 females then added another later on. One disappeared and one changed to male. They've been good but I also try and keep my reef on the cooler side for them and my blue spot jawfish. I really dont think they'd do well in QT. They need lots of ledges and hiding spots.

Me too! What's the secret to keeping Anthias alive?

Find what food they like and feed like crazy. I feed whenever I walk past the tank. During the week probably 5+times. Weekends much more

I second this. Mine love Rods Food and even more Spirulana Brine. IMO the key to keeping aggression down and them happy is lots of small meals throughout the day. They are very active fish and need the food for energy. They also need a safe spot whether a cave or a crevice to rest at night.

I got my ventralis eating on reef nutrition R.O.E.. most anthias love eggs. Now they'll eat anything

Agreed. R.O.E. Helped me fatten up my Anthias in the beginning. My resplendents also now eat everything. I don’t worry about feeding them just once a day, but I usually feed twice to keep nutrients up in the tank.

I will be stocking a 180 gal over the summer and so want a small group of anthias but this thread has me concerned. Do they not do well with wrasses?

They do great. I have 7 resplendents and 1 fathead sunburst Anthias along with 3 different leopard wrasses, 2 flasher wrasses, and 4 fairy wrasses.

Nice!! Would you be able to tell me where you got the ventralis? My pair needs a group of females but they are so hard to track down

That photo was taken at my lfs a year or two ago. Haven’t seen any recently.

Those pictures are absolutely spectacular though the first one looks more pictilis to me. How long were you able to maintain the tuka group?

You are both right. I had both species together at the time. Tuka were all bullied by a sixline. He was exiled after that. They lasted close to 2 years.

They will be fine together, it's more of a joke about a perceived rivalry between Wrasses and Anthias for underrated fish in the hobby.
