Honestly I’ve done it both ways, going all dry or all live and dry was cheaper and with a bottle of bacteria it was the best option. Don’t fall for real reef rock. You pay so much because it’s part concrete and your rock will purple up quickly anyways.

You could go minimal rock scape and go the the marine pure blocks or balls. May save you money that way.
