I'm not having any problems but I would like to have some Interceptor on hand just in case. I know that it is commonly used to treat red bugs. What really scares me are these new "black bugs" that attack LPS. I have not had any luck getting a local vet to prescribe my reef tank any interceptor. In fact they give me a pretty weird look when I try to explain to them what I need it for.

I have some if you if you can't get it locally. I get it for my dogs monthly.
I dosed it a while back too. What a difference it made.

I read about the new "black bugs" on another forum. It sounds like they could potentially devistate a nice chalice collection. I would just like to have something on hand to dip new additons in and dose the tank with if a problem ever arises.

That was noticed with in the influx of aussie stuff, especially aussie acans. I am still a bit paranoid about introducing new animals from newer collection areas because of unknown pests and pathogens :(

"black bugs" eeek! Never heard of them. Aren't there enough coral pests already!

Did they post a picture of these "black bugs"?

Yeah its nice to have on hand. I QT everything now. So if I see anything in my QT tank, I can dose whatever I need to. I dip 4x the strength of Revive for 2 min when I get a new sps too. Unless it is a thin branched - they can't even take a regular revive dip usually. I dip just about everything - including zoa's, shrooms, lps, ect. I'd rather loose a coral, then deal with something messing with my whole collection....

I haven't read anything on the black bugs - do you have a link or can you copy and paste so it isn't forum to forum?

There are two different types, There is a black bug that affects montipora species, especially digitatas. Then there is the mysterious chalice receeding version.

Wow - thanks - I'll have to keep on the lookout for stuff like that now.

I got a couple chalices in the mail a while back, the tentacles were out (found out later), and I hadn't seen that before - it looked like eggs, so I tossed em'. Better safe than sorry.

Chalices and Acans are impacted. I've treated 3x with Interceptor for this issue and it worked great each time.

Since this is a prescription drug, won't it be illegal to sell? I would be careful requesting and selling.

I thought about that too. If law enforcement has enough time to worry about guys using heartworm medication to get rid of sea fleas though.........:squigglemouth:

Pm's would be best.

won't r2r be involved too then? allowing sales of prescription drugs.

Why can I not obtain a prescription for my tank? I believe that it is very legal to buy as long as you have a prescription. Why should I have to get my dog a prescription so I can use it in a reef tank? Sounds like some laws need to be changed.

I would like to have this thread closed. As to not bring any trouble to R2R.

You will need someone to write the prescription. The drug is not intended for reef use but works for reef tanks. Who is going to write you a prescription?

I have heard that the site will want to contact your vet to get the prescription.

I am just saying be careful.

Thank you for the warning. You make a good point. No laws have been broken so lets keep it that way.
