Can I ask how big of a tank you have? If you go this route, which I think you should since algae scrubbers are awesome, you should definitely go for the 1.4x. If you skimp you run the risk of the display out-competing your scrubber.

I got a JBJ 45 gallon. So the back chamber is really limited for algae scrubber choices. I think anything between 1.2-1.4 is fine.
