WWC acclimation method

Hey all, I ordered a few frags from wwc during their live sale that will be here next week. I was taking a look at their acclimation guide and noticed they recommend adding to the tank for awhile before dipping.

What is the general opinion on this? If it wasn’t coming from a source like WWC I feel like I’d just ignore it and dip anyways but I have to assume they know what they are doing.

[Dipping - We do not recommend dipping corals during or just after acclimation due to corals being stressed from shipping. This can cause irreversible damage to your recently shipped corals. The number one contributor of deceased corals is improper dipping! This occurs due to improper techniques and timing. However, dipping corals is the right thing to do, but it’s important to time it properly to reduce additional stress on your new frags. Plus, double and triple check the amount of dip you are adding to your dipping container. Do not wing it and think adding more dipping reagent will kill more parasites!
We recommend that you wait 10 to 24 hours after adding your new corals to your reef to dip. You might ask, “Isn’t this enough time for parasites and undesirables to spread?” The likelihood of this happening is very small as they are few and far between, parasites, just like your new corals are also adjusting to the new environ- ment that is your reef. This is another reason that we recommend you lightly blow off your corals while acclimating as this will also help in reducing the possibility of adding something unintended to your reef. It’s also another great way to get to know your corals better!

One thing that occurs to me, is that WWC is a leader in pest free propagation systems. While nobody can guarantee a pest free system, it’s not like these came in fresh from the ocean or from an untrusted source.

Dipping right away can cause extra stress when pieces may already be upset from shipping.

Even if you aren't going to full on QT for 72/76 days a week or 2 or even a few days of isolating and allowing the coral to rest / recover and be fully examined after it's happy can be a much greater benefit then throwing every kind of dip the second it arrives in a tiny bit of water after being in a box all night.

This does seem weird to me, but I guess WWC would know. It just seems like it would give hitchhikers the chance to jump ship and spread.

I thought the same thing when I got their acclimation directions. I actually bought a new bottle of Coral RX in anticipation of their delivery. But....they've been doing this a lot longer than me, so I followed their advice. Acclimated with my own water in the wife's Tupperware containers, blew them (gently) off with a turkey baster and placed at the bottom of the tank. I'm going to pickup a frag rack this afternoon for them to sit in, as I don't trust CUC to know them over.

What's the consensus on how long they should sit at the bottom of the tank to acclimate?

Surprisingly, the birdsnest and montipora seem to already be opening up, even at the bottom of the tank.
