Hello, I recently purchased live rock with Xenia corals on it. It had been out of water for about an hour. When I put it in the tank, it didn’t look very well. Looks like it’s melted. Do you think that it will be okay?

I recently purchased a small Xenia frag. It has about 8-10 “hands” on it. For about 5 days, the hands stayed contracted and close together. However, when the lights went off, they completely retracted into a melted looking form. But after 5 days or so, the hands ended up completely opening. Xenias are known for their hardiness. Just give it some time. Also, I had just got a new led light and I accidentally hit full power mode for just a few seconds. The Xenia completely went into hiding. So, if it’s high in the tank or you have high lighting, that is something you could also look into.

Xenia is almost impossible to kill if you want to kill it. Give it some time. I’ve pulled it off my rocks with tweezers leaving behind the tiniest of bits and even then it always come back.
