Xenia in Sump?

What kind of lighting are you using for the xenia fuge? I have some in a low light tank doing fine and was thinking that a high Kelvin T8 fluorescent would be enough for a xenia fuge, maybe?
Been using a 150 watt metal halide for years, but I will be switching over to Reefbreeder value fixtures sometime this year. I prefer the color of the Xenia under LEDs.
Does Xenia propagate by spores or only saplings ( that's what I call them :) )
Saplings(I like your word:) )

I have never used T8 with Xenia before. I have used T5s and they worked well. I find the higher the kelvin the better the color contrast on the Xenia, which makes them sell faster at the LFS. However for me when using a higher kelvin it doesn't grow as fast. Unless you blast them with lower optic LEDs. That is just my experience....

Thanks, maybe I'll try the fixture I have with the regular bulb in there already (like 4100k) and see how it grows.

I have a par30 bulb on a 5g I will be breaking down eventually that can go to the fuge if it's not working out

I am gonna give this a try..have been struggling with nitrates for a while :) Any specific kind of xenia works - OR - one particular kind works better than other ?

I have it isolated on a rock and it is doing great. I like the movement in the DT. With that on one end of my tank and GSP on another isolated rock on the other, they balance well for movement. I have found the easiest way to get rid of Xenia is to let an acan touch it. I had moved the rock too close to an acan and two branches from two different stocks of Xenia touch the acan and each stock died and disintegrated. The other stocks on the rock were fine and still are...just those two. So Acan to the rescue for Xenia removal.

I have used both Pompom and Elongata. IMO the Pompom is prettier, but the Elongata is hardier and because it is hardier it will survive longer at the LFS. From my experience whenever I would try to sell Pompom at the LFS most of the times it would melt away in just a few days.

The adjustable drain on the right side of the DT flows into the Xenia fuge.

Love the vid. Do you harvest it/export the nutrients?
