I've heard of people putting Xenia in their sump for nutrient export. I have some that were growing TOO well in my tank and I banished it to my sump. It's growing really well there too. I'm so tired of cleaning the chaeto out of my sump and was thinking maybe this might work.

So I have two questions. First, does anyone have real experience with it and does it work? Second, will it end up back in my display tank? I don't want it there. I left a nanometer of it on a rock when I pulled the frag plug and it's now growing into several polyps. I don't want it to suddenly show up everywhere in my main display if I keep it in the sump.

Any help would be appreciated!

I do
its solid on a sheet of egg crate in my frag tank

nitrates are 0 and am taking action to bring nutrients up

flourishing under a red spectrum algae light, by the way

thinking about breaking the egg crate in half

if way lowered nutrients is your target, this is your arrow

Very cool. That's what I was hoping to hear. I actually bought this egg crate off of Amazon that snaps together. So my thinking is I could 'harvest' off a whole piece and just snap in a new one. What about it ending up back in your display?

I haven’t seen evidence of that, but will keep an eye out for it. Small sprouts of Xenia are not too much of a bother to identify and pull out.
Here’s a picture I just took under red light

Is indeed a forest

Nice! I have the AI Prime 'fuge' light and it's been growing the Xenia just fine. I was wondering if I should upgrade, but apparently by the look of your sump, that's not necessary.
