Update: So it hasn't died off, but it's not happy still. I have a green hair algae problem that has bloomed up. It was getting a lot better and then it blew up again. Protein skimmer seems to be doing its job, removes some really nasty stuff but I have to adjust it's height all the time bc of rapid evaporation. I further cause problems bc I don't have an auto-top off. (Still not sure how I will be able to configure it with my tank construction. DAS aquariums are not modification friendly) I also don't use RO/DI water, yet. Waiting to get my kit in the mail. So I know I'm not helping myself, but I used to be able to keep it in check with regular water changes. All that to say, I will cut it off the rock and put it in a glass container I have and lay on top of some substrate. Hopefully it will like that better and then I can attach it to the back wall of my tank. I've taken all your great ideas and will be implementing them to my tank. Hope is not all lost! lol. (I knew I would need to make some adjustments to my tank husbandry and equipment when I switched from a FOWLR to a Reef tank. Was hoping I could get away with some stuff though :0...doesn't look that way)

Thanks Reeftank - gonna try it in the glass container on the sand bed first and then maybe move it up if it's still not good. Any ideas from people on how to excise it from the rock?

I got the idea from a few replies I've received as well as reading other topics/posts. One reason is that once it takes off it tends to explode with growth. So taking it off the rock is on is priority for me as that rock I would like to use for other corals. Another reason is that I got a tip to have it bond to substrate so that I can easily putty that to my back wall of the tank and create a nice cover that way. Once it moves onto the wall, I take the substrate piece off and can then move it. It would be the same as moving it onto a small piece of rock, but I don't have any that are suitable, and I would rather not stick a rock on the glass. Also, once I have it on the back wall, I have a smaller piece of rock that I would like it to grow on and I will keep it contained to that piece. Just some ideas that I picked up and want to run with I guess.

oh ok - sounds like you have your ideas well thought out :) I might observe it once you have it "happy" and see what you think in terms of having it all over the back glass.
