Xmas wrasse buried for 5 weeks?

Put a Christmas Wrasse in my display tank after quarantining it for nearly a month. Christmas wrasse hung out in the water column for a couple hours then buried itself in my sand. Its been five weeks and I’ve only seen it once when I saw it swimming for a second one morning at 6 am. I look for it all the time in the middle of the night and never seem to find it. What do people think? Is he dead? Is there a way that I can possibly draw him out of the sand? Should I just Continue to be patient and wait for it to come out? Since it’s a Christmas Wrasse we’ve named it jingle and hope he comes out on Christmas Eve

While they bury themselves , its generally not extended and they at least come out for food.
What is tank salinity-temp- nitrate levels?
What foods are you offering ?

Thanks for the response. Its a fowlr. Salinity is 1.024, temp is 80, and nitrates is a little high for what i look like 40 ppm. I have a 75 gallon with a canister which needs to be cleaned this week. All other fish are doing well and normal

Food a mix of frozen and pellets - mysis, brine, plankton, krill, hikari marine, pe mysis, seachem marine flake

Kinda what I suspected. Get Nitrate down (water changes and reduce amount of food fed) and bring temp down to 78 - fish is favoring bottom which is coolest part of tank and nitrates are due also in part to canister unit which unless cleaned regularly/frequently will generate nitrate.
I recommend also adding a hang on protein skimmer such as Ice Cap K1-50 or 100 to remove inorganics

What species of Christmas wrasse is it? There are a multitude of species that go under this name. Three are from Halichoeres and it’s not unheard of for any sand sleeper to go under for over a few months. Look at your tank at night and see, chances are that’s when it’s out. Remember;
These fish have a body clock different to our own. Chances are they come out at night and feed on the live foods in the rock.
