This is from the PAR database portion of the lighting forum. I hope this helps.
I setup a small display tank in home office. I plan to make it SPS dominate.
Being as this is my first time using LEDs I borrowed a PAR meter from my LFS. In the past I would simply place the corals anywhere I wanted in the display as I was running more than enough lighting with MH and T5. I was unsure if these two fixtures would provide enough PAR so that is why I tested. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered. In all the years I’ve been reefing I never checked for PAR. I simply looked for signs from the corals concerning placement.
Based on my results, I’m glad I didn’t grab a third XR15.I like a very white look to my display so I am very happy with the current settings. With the PAR tested I should have no issues placing SPS just about anywhere in the display.
