I just wanted to show off my large ORA Hawkins colony since I've never posted photos of it.
This started as a tiny frag about 7 years ago, I think. It is at the top of my water column, directly under a 250w Radium, in high, oscillating flow so it has grown as a dense table instead of the usual branching formation. It is about 13" across in all directions and about 4" high.

Front view (shooting down on the colony, not directly from the side)

Very nice. I could only hope my 4in mini colony gets to a nice size like yours. Mines about a year old and started from a tiny frag.

Sorry to hijack your post.

1 year and started as a tiny frag? Makes me want one!!!

Thanks everyone! It's one of those corals I take for granted in my display. I constantly overlook it focusing on the smaller ones until someone comes over and marvels at it. Then I "see" it again.

Out of most of my Acros I have this one is bullet proof. From different lighting to parameter swings. Sees to be happy at the bottom of my 24 in deep tank. ATI T5 supplemented with Kessil A160's

Wow this is awesome! I just got a frag from ORA last week. Still figuring out how to cut the ora plug off. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome man! This is still one of the best old school pieces an sps keeper must have.

I cant stand the ORA plugs. Mine is still on the ORA plug. I just drilled a hole in the rock work to fit the plug. Seems any corals I've purchased on an ORA plug never will encrust outwards. They only grow up and out. Don't know if it has something to do with my tanks or the plugs.

Sick. Crazy how we often overlook the corals that in the end make this hobby worthwhile. Congrats on your husbandry!

wow... i just purchased (yesterday) a 1'' frag of ORA hawkin... now you just set the bar for the next 7 years !!
it's really nice tosee amture colony, nicely done!

As much as I hate to, I'm really considering getting rid of it. M uy 120 has a 4' x 2' footprint and this takesp a good portion of that. I'm out of space and need the room!

My favorite sps.
Interesting about the table like growth, mine grows quite differently. I can get a pic if you'd like to see for reference.

Pretty impressive!! Curious what kind of flow you have it under. Hard to keep these corals from getting dead patches and die off in center...obviously you have figured out a way to avoid.
