Hello,

I have a 30g nano. I've had a diamond goby for a while and introduced a Yasha a few weeks ago with the intent to add a Randall's Pistol.

No issues between the two. Separate burrows.

Today I saw them locked like this. Not a great pic but they're jaw-locked. Perhaps territorial fighting? Has anyone else run across this? Is 30g too small?

Trying to remove the diamond for a while anyway. Looks like i'll have to take out the rock work to get it. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Gobies can be territorial. I had issues with a Yasha and high-fin in a 90gal. Current 150gal has two high fins, and while I want some other burrowing gobies in there I don’t want to risk it. While at times it seems they’re happy in one spot - these fish move around quite a bit deciding where their next burrow should be.

I’d try a DIY bottle fish trap before trying to remove rockwork. You’ll probably catch the diamond removing the rockwork, but high probability of crushing the Yasha in the process.

great info, thanks. i'll try to the bottle trap (again). i think last time i didn't leave it in long enough because the diamond smelled trouble from the get go and never got close to it. trapped a lot of snails and shrimp though.

in the meantime, is this just scrapping or will it lead to serious injury/death?

my bullet goby didn't like my yasha very much, im pretty sure he ate him. but i've never had a problem with my bullet and mandarin gobies, maybe they're different enough to where they don't fight

It’ll be just scrapping until it turns to death. I’d assume the diamond will win, and it sounds like you don’t want him to be the victor.

If you’ve already used a bottle trap perhaps look into fish traps. Some cheaper ones on Amazon. They can double as an acclimation box for future new additions.

This is aggression, 30G is way too small for a diamond goby anyway. Diamond Gobies are known for being aggressive, it’s likely the Diamond is the one who started the fight and if you aren’t able to intervene soon, it’s likely he’ll win it as well.

Gobies and Mandarins are two different families altogether, Mandarins are not true gobies and are instead dragonets. That’s why your two are getting along.
