Hi, I just introduced a Yasha Goby to my tank on Monday, and like many others I wasn't able to find him for the first couple days. He wasn't looking that great when I put him in and I was worried he wasn't going to make it. But sure enough he came out last night for feeding, and it looks like he found a nice cave for himself. Anyone else have some photos of this charismatic fish? I'm going to pick up a pistol shrimp next time my LFS has them.

I apologize if the pic doesnt come out, it's the first time I'm trying to upload direct to the site rather than use photobucket.

Nice! I'm glad to hear you've had one for a few years already. After I got mine I read how they might have a shorter lifespan than most hobby fish.

I really need to make a photo setting on my lights so i dont overload the pics with blue channel like the one above. Doesnt help that it was in the evening as the lights were ramping down.

I have one also that is very shy. It only comes out at night when it sleeps against the corner glass. The pistol shrimp I never see, but every now and then I hear a sound like my tank glass suddenly cracked.

Did you introduce them at the same time? I'm a little concerned that the goby wont go look for the pistol once I get one. I read a good suggestion that said to have them both in the same bag, dig a little hole at the side of a rock, and then put the bag in with the opening covering the hole you made. The shrimp should start digging right away and you remove the bag once he is done.

I might try that with just the shrimp when I get one, and start him with a hole near where I know the goby likes to hang out.

I bought them as a pair and introduced them together. I have a diamond goby that I'm afraid is king of the tank.

Not a requirement, but it's a cool relationship if you can get them together. I wonder if it affects the goby's life span in a positive way.

I had my goby for awhile before I got the shrimp. He was staying in a hole in the rock so I just used some rigid tube and slid him down it into the gobys hole. He eventually dug in the sand under it. (They were separated after a tank move but found each other on their own after a few days, too)
Goby was much more bold after that, and he’s warmed up enough that he’ll come to the top for food and swim about sometimes. The tank used to be by a window and every couple minutes he’d swim to the other side to look out!

Yeah I cant wait to pick up a shrimp for him. Over the last 2 days he has moved down to the sand and has a nice cave with multiple entrances and exits, lucky for me it's right at the front glass. I'm going to try and get a better pic of him later today.
