Well it's not custom like I want, but for right now it will be good for me.

I haven't picked the tank up yet, but will pick it up after I get back from vacation.

Its a used 120g tank canopy and stand but is only 9 months old and in mint condition. :D

The stand and canopy alone are $500, but I got the stand, canopy, tank, and a sump for $550. Not to bad. ;)

Sweet!

Any ideas on equipment yet? :D

Ah HA! yes I will need your help folks.

I was thinking about (2) 250w SE retros and a vho set up in the canopy. I know the canopy is small but it will work as I did this on my 125g. I was thinking about going with radiums????

What ballast do you recommend?

For flow (2) Tunze Stream and controller. Would this be enough you think?

For return not to sure, any thoughts?

40g sump, and I would use my Euroreef I have for now along with the other stuff I have...JBJ Autotop, Reefkeeper2, Calcium reactor, etc...

Am I missing anything?

Thanks guys.

It is glass, black painted glass, and (2) overflows in there you can barely see.

This will be a mixed reef tank. :D

I would like to do some Lumenarc reflectors, but dont know if they will fit or not.

Oh also I will have to do my own durso's....

couple of questions...

what are the demensions of the tank?

what are the demensions of the canopy?

is this mixed reef, going to house everything.....i.e. acans/micros/zoas etc?

something to think about....as far as the radiums go....they are expensive bulbs at $90 each. what kind of ballast are you thinking about running them with?

since you are going to do 2, on a tank that big with sps, i'd defniitely recomend the HQI ballasts, but you'll have to replace these bulbs every 5-6months. the HQI ballasts will give the bulbs a crisp 14k look, paired with actinics will look good.

if you do an electronic ballast for the radiums, you will already be at 20k. pair that with actinics and you will have crazy blue and the bulbs will last up to a year.......personal preference i guess.

Ok well I dont want crazy blue or have to change my bulbs every 6months or so. I want them to last a year. So any suggestions on lighting and ballast? I really like SE bulbs for better coverage. DE seem to project mostly straight down.

let me know what the height of the canopy is......thats gonna go a long ways to figure out what kind of set up to use.

well, depending on the size of your canopy....you have 3 really good options as far as mounting reflectors go....

1) mount (2) 24" PFO parallel reflectors side by side (they only make them up to 36"). this may be your best option if you dont want to have to cut up that canopy to put lumenarcs in. you can also mount your VHO's/T5's into that reflector without having to buy extra reflectors and modding the canopy to mount them. and PFO reflector may be slim enough to where you dont need to cut out the top of the canopy.

2) mount (2) full sized lumenarcs into the canopy. i'm pretty sure they will fit. but you'll have to raise them up pretty high. which means you'll have to take the top off the canopy, and you'll see the reflectors sticking out of the top. i've seen pics of tanks like this, and it doesn't look as bad as it sounds. if i come across a picture i'll let you know. then you'll still need to mount your VHO's/T5's.

3) put in (2) lumenarc mini's. you'll still have to raise them up thigh though, so you'll come across the same problem with the top of the canopy. and of course, you'll then need to figure out a way to mount your VHO's/T5's.

this guy has a 4x2x2' tank also, and did the 250w's with 2 lumenarc mini's.

I really dont want to cut anything so this may be my best bet.

wow great score on the setup Rev, hope you have fun with the new tank :D

I love my Radium bulb! It's the best light I have ever owned. I run mine on an Icecap ballast which runs it at normal wattage. I should be able to get 1yr out of it.

Nice tank by the way! Can't wait to see it up and running.
