UV lights are only got for a very small amount to problems. Generally the pest need to be slow growing for a UV light to be of any use. The Ro/Di unit is to small. I see many new hobbyist buy these smaller units only to be dissatisfied. Better of with a 150 gallon unit than this small 50 gallon a day unit.

ARe uv lights used mostly to fight bacteria that can harm fish?

If it is in the water column. Most bacterial infections in fish are in the scales and gills. A UV is not an essential piece of aquarium equipment.

Yea, those are ok to use. I'd try to find the ones using T5's though. Better lighting than the old style Power Compacts
