My tank had its 1st birthday a couple weeks ago. I just received a 10 piece sps package that I currently have in a frag rack. The first year went pretty smooth other than a ich out break where I removed all fish and did the 76 day fallow. Other than that currently battling vermitid snails but not really bothersome I just remove as many as I can find when doing water changes.
So now after receiving my high end sps package I only plan on adding another fish or 2. And let the tank grow while painting my parameters. Is there anything that I should be aware of in year 2 of a tanks life? I heard tanks get harder to keep each year. Is that because people start slacking off in husbandry?

nice looking tank man. mine is around the same mark so i'm curious what people have to say. i have avoided any dinos or cyanos so far, scared of those..

At around year 2, expect your hair to start falling out and your bank account shrinking ! J/k honestly if you stay on top your tank things will only get easier. You will start to get a feel for the tank and its I inhabitants keep up the good work.

So far the tank has settled in pretty good. I added a dosing pump at the 7 month mark and have only had to slightly adjust alk here and there. I have lost 1 acro frag but I believe that was from the way I acclimated it. I cant wait to see the results and growth over the next year.

My tank just turned 2 yrs. Year 1 seemed tough to me because I was learning as I went and I felt like I was always worried about something. My goal is a well stocked mixed reef and I made some serious progress in year 2. The tank matured and I grew confidence. I mostly focused on stability and it paid off.

I think the first year is generally tougher than year 2. I do think that the first several months, bad husbandry can be masked by everything just getting started...but by the time you hit year 2, you should have a feeling for whether you've hit your stride or if perhaps there are some bad habits that are negatively impacting your reef.

Years 2 & 3 I started seeing equipment failures. Make sure you have a plan of attack on every piece of equipment you own, from finances, to if you would rebuy the same piece of equipment again or try smthg else

I think and hope by year 2 and 3 the money saved by already being stocked with coral and fish the equipment can be upgraded
