Hi guys, I had a yellow tang for two weeks in my tank. I added a purple tang 5 days ago. The yellow tang is always attacking and chasing the purple tang causing him to stress and he now has white spots. What can I do to prevent them from fighting and get them to live peacefully together?

Did you quarantine your purple tang before putting him into your display tank?

Being Territorial and the typical jerk it is in welcoming a fish. Should subside in 3-4 days.
Placing a picture of another yellow tang taped to glass should help as should a mirror for a few minutes any other hour fooling the tang that there is another yellow one in tank taking focus from the purple.

I initially put up 3 mirrors on the side of my tank, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be helping. I am now on my 6th day and they are still fighting

Could be that the purple tang was stressed out when he was put into the tank and now the yellow tang is still picking on him cause he is weak and hasn't been able to recover?

Acclimation box would have been my route - However two Surgeons from the same family can often just be a gamble that does not pay off. Its just territorial aggression - Cant always subside it.

That makes sense. should I remove the yellow and let the purple settle in for a bit?

Time for the yellow to get a timeout. Get a net breeder/breeder box at Walmart/Petco/PetSmart and leave it in there for 3-5 days.

Same family of Tang. Going to be tough regardless. Sump the yellow tang for a couple of days Then add him back again. In the meantime keep a heavy supply of food going to keep the tang eating through what’s sounds like Ich.

Yes, Id quarantine the yellow tang for a few days until the purple tang has recovered.

I do this with all my fish regardless of being healthy as they are stressed out and then the other fish pick on them.

And yes, the white spots sound like Ich keep the yellow tang well fed.

I didn't, but the purple was healthy when I put him in
Ich goes through cycles and you can’t see it visually until it’s nearly ready to drop off the fish (with thousands more babies on the way). I would carefully monitor the fish for symptoms (scratching/flashing). If it is ich, this thread will be helpful. If you quarantine, you’ll get another shot at reintroducing these together and maybe avoid the aggression. Best of luck!
