Hey everyone! I'm new here but wondering about everyone's experiences with these fish?
I recently picked one up a few weeks ago and got ICH. It is in quarantine right now and is doing very well! I was wondering if anyone else has any pics of theirs?

I got one that came with a tank. Sadly it didn't make the move cause the air pump accidentally got turned off overnight. It was over 4" and would be my favorite fish so I was pretty crushed.

I recently picked up another one but the more common BT and it's in QT as well. It was sick when I got it and nursed it for 4 weeks but it came down with something again only a week later. I QT it before Thanksgiving weekend and treated with coppersafe and when I returned a few days later the spots were all gone. It looked like ich but none of the other fish have it so I'm kinda stumped. It's true what people say that BT are hard to keep cause they are so susceptible to illness but their beauty makes it worth the effort.

I agree. hadit for a week then the ich came out, again none of my other fish got it but I do runa UV so that could have helped. All of the spots are gone so ill probably move it back to the main display in about another week if all goes well

They’re quite susceptible to parasites, as are many tangs. Once established they can be quite hardy. They’re essentially no different from the regular hippo tang aside from the regional variance in coloration, and the price tag increase.

I had one that ate a bunch of zoas a while back. This time I opted for a regular regal but I am keeping my eye on it.

Love the look of the fish! Mine is doing quite well recovering so hopefully I can get it back with the rest of them soon!

How long have you had the Achilles and do you find it harder to keep than the PBT? The Achilles tang is a must for me one day. I have a PBT now and he has been with me since end of July and getting fat!!

I’ve had that one only a few months. I’ve kept them for years though. Yes, they’re more difficult than the PBT. Less hardy, but once established they do alright. They are a bit more water quality sensitive than PBT. More susceptible to parasites as well. Both will need a fully disease free system with proper QT procedures for all fish, even residents.
