I just got a yellow clown goby yesterday and he had lots of color and looked really healthy but ever since then he's been in one spot(hasn't even touched any of the live rock), lost almost all his color, and hasn't eaten anything. Is this common behavior? If it is, what can I do to make him more comfortable and feed him better?

This was right when I first got him

Looks stressed? How did the acclimation go (bag float or drip?) Have you tried turning off your lights for awhile? Is it being harassed by anything?

The yellow clown goby was one of the first fish I ever got and I had the same problem, no matter what I tried to feed him he would not eat. Unfortunately he did not make it. I have read that sometimes they will not eat in a new environment , I really liked mine :( , crossing my fingers for you and him.

Even in the first picture, stomach looks a little sunken in so he is probably just really stressed out. If the parameters were off when you thought acclimation was finished then that could cause this. By now he should have at least moved out of the corner though. Sorry to hear about that, but they can be fragile when first adding them IMO.

I did the bag float for 30 minutes with the lights off. Today I only had the lights on for 5hrs(normally 8hrs) and I only have two clown fish, a cleaner shrimp, and 2 turbo snails and they all don't bother with him at all.

Give him a couple more days. He'll get hungry and acclimate. My fought for an hour then we to their respective corners and are fine. Do you have a lot of lr for him to swim around? Here's mine in HIS coral. He guards in constantly.

Yeah I have lots of caves and arches for him to swim in and around.

Try feeding fish eggs. If you have an Asian food store look for masago. This is often readily eaten.

I've kept many clown gobies (black, green and yellow) i went through the same thing with my yellow, just give him time to adjust to your tank. The yellows will turn white/clear but 9/10 it will be fine. He's a small fish in a big ocean. Keep doing your normal everyday schedule and it will adjust. As with any new fish it takes time for them to settle in to their new home. Love these little guys. Mine hang out in my sps all day and look like there looking over the tank to watch everyone.

Yours is very skinny. I don't know what you are feeding him but they won't normally eat dry foods. Mine spawn about every week and eat live blackworms and small pieces of clam that they get every day.

Here she is with her eggs just above her.

Nice pics Paul!

Forgot to add that in and a good point, I feed mine meaty food, no dry at all

Mine is a pig who eats all sorts of foods, but he especially loves Reef Nutrition Roe, fish eggs that come in a refrigerated bottle. I squirt a little into a small container with freshwater and use a pipette or turkey baster to feed. A little goes a long way.
