Just looking for opinions. I have a significant red planaria issue going on. I’m thinking of getting either one. Just looking for which you would get. Current tank inhabitants are two clowns, YWG, and Foxface.

I’m not looking to run the chemical route

If both are available, and your tank has room for 2 medium fish, I would definitely get both. 90g plus.
I have both among a 8 wrasses in my 135 and they are 2 of my favorites. They will both eat pests like red flatworms. And they are both active, beautiful fish. So you can't go wrong with either if you only want to choose one.

I only have a 65. I would like both but don’t think I have the room. I know the melanurus would eventually out growths 65 but I think the coris also leans towards the larger side

Having had more experience with Melanurus wrasses, I find them less temperamental and a good addition to a tank for pest cleaning.

Is there an option for other?
You don’t need to go for just a Melanurus or Yellow ‘Coris’, look into the Halichoeres genus more. There are other stunning species!

If you have other suggestions, I’m open to them. I know many get towards the larger size so that’s why I was leaning towards those two

I can definitely give a few recommendations!

Halichoeres leucoxanthus
Halichoeres timorensis
Halichoeres iridis
Halichoeres cosmetus
Halichoeres biocellatus
Halichoeres pelicieri
Halichoeres leucurus
Halichoeres annularis

Some of these get larger than others and will need a 3-4’ tank long term but assuming you’re willing to rehome them then it shouldn’t be too bad.
When I get home I will be able to give a few other recommendations.

So went to the LFS and they had what is supposed to be Halichoeres ornatissimus. I went ahead and got it as it was a decent price and is currently in quarantine. I only question the ID as it seems the Ornate Wrasse is a native of Hawaii and to my knowledge no bans have been lifted. So I’m thinking it may be Halichoeres claudia. Sorry for the bag pics She buried herself in the sand not 30 seconds after I added her.

Both offer great color, have good disposition but yellow stays smaller. Both would eat flatworms and some pests as well as having good diet

That looks to me like a beautiful Biocellatus.

In your opinion is there a halichoeres wrasse that you'd describe as "most" safe with inverts

Honestly, not really. They’re all at the same risk. But if it comes to what’s more likely to murder them, it’s larger Halichoeres that are more risky. Smaller and often less common species like Iridis I’ve found don’t destroy inverts as often.

I don't see the eyespots of a young biocellatus. How big is it?

I voted the melanarus, only because with your current fish you have a lot of yellow already. Both are great :)
