I've had this yellow coris wrasse for about 4 years. Got him at about 1" and now is 4/5" and has matured (beautiful head). He has always been a shy fish and freaks out easily. He has jumped and hit the top of my canopy more times than I can count. Whenever I walk by the tank he would stay in and out of the rock work and never come close to the glass. Last week he totally changed. He swims out in the open with no fear. Comes right to the glass when i'm there and I can basically hand feed him. He is a totally different fish. I haven't made any changes and there hasn't been a new fish in the tank for over 2 years. Is this normal for them as they mature?

It seems they get more dominant as they age, like 6 line wrasses get much more aggressive as they age.

Interesting observation.

My yellow has always been the one to entice everyone else out of the rockwork in the AM. Always swimming, and the first one looking for food. Certainly not shy by any means, and I'm almost certain even though I have larger fish, he/she is the tank boss.

Mine is very outgoing and seems to be bipolar. Even at 3-4" mines has been getting harassed by a 1" Golden Damsel, and then he will turn the table. Otherwise a very very peaceful fish.

He swims with my Leopard Wrasse pair like he is one of the family.

Mine bothers no one and no one bothers him. He hangs with a Flame angel who is tank boss. Just a 180 change in personality a week ago. Never had a fish's personality change overnight like that. My grand kids love him now.

my chrysus has always been very outgoing and doesn't seem to scare at all. i can have my hands in the tank, doing a water change, gluing frags, etc and he doesn't bury. but my h. biocellatus.. while not a scared fish, he buries at the slightest sign of doing anything in the tank. putting in masstick? buried. taking the screen top off? buried. water change? buried. feeding corals? buried.
