I've had a yellow coris wrasse for about 9 months now. Yesterday, I took off my lid to feed... and suddenly he and my melanurus both decided to jump out. I was able to put my melanurus back in the tank quickly b/c he landed on my couch, but the yellow coris landed behind my tank on the floor, so it took me a good minute to reach behind and grab him.

The coris was swimming funny and also was not able to eat. It looked like he was trying to eat but couldn't see or swim properly... I thought maybe he just needed some time to recover.

Today, I can't find him in the tank. I tried to look for him in the sand, but it's difficult to tell where he is.. I'm thinking maybe he is dead and in the sand :(:(:(:(

I wish I can at least find his corpse.... ;(

Don't try to chase him through the sand - it can make matters worse.

There's a decent possibility that he's dug in for a few days to recover - hopefully, he'll put in an appearance soon.

My yellow coris jumped (out of the small hole above the overflow I cut in my mesh top for the Durso pipe) and the kids saw it on the floor. They didn't see it jump and I don't know how long it was out of water. I scooped it up and I was sure it was going to die for several days. I had to partially cover it with a glass bowl to keep my blennies from trying to eat it (mated pair of molly millers that I traded soon after for store credit). It disappeared into the sand stayed there for a few days and came out fine other than missing some scales. That was a couple months ago and it's back to its old self now. Very thankful as it's one of my favorite fish. Cat was going for it when my six year old saw it and started screaming.

My H. chrysus jumped 7 times(that's right 7 times) all while I had the cover off to feed or do maintenance. We nick named him the yellow Scud Missile! The last time he jumped was behind the tank which is 6 feet long and he was exactly in the middle. I couldn't reach him and was panicking. Finally grabbed my broom and swept him out from behind the tank. He was covered in dust and looked like a dust bunny. Cleaned him off and put him back in the tank. He looked bad for about 30 minutes but then got up off the bottom and acted like nothing had happened.

I hated to have to rehome him when I moved!
