Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone has had their yellow coris wrasse develop black spots, appearing behind the eye near to the gills. I've looked around online and have found one post saying that it is normal but no answer to what is going on with the fish, the spots match each side and are not always as visible as other times, my water is stable on parameters and the fish is eating and speeding around the tank as usual with no obvious changes to behaviour.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like your guy is transitioning into a male. You can see the line in the anal fin and the black dot are big indicators.

The photo @vetteguy53081 showed is a matured male instead of a female/juvenile...
As they mature from juvenile stage , they develop this

Thanks for the informative replies I have had him just over 3 years now.

Fantastic fish
Yeah, that’s a definite transitional male, what you had previously was a female and without another dominant male in the tank, these guys will transition :)
