Hey,

Does anyone know if a yellow coris wrasse will eat stomatella snails?

I'm considering getting a yellow coris wrasse but I have a lot of stomatella snails who keep my tank without any algae. I'm concerned the wrasse will eat the snails thus allowing the algae to grow?

When small the snails will probably be OK, but as it matures the snails will be on the menu......mine were. Good news is there are always exceptions with fish, but not the norm. Also the snails may learn to be nocturnal some of mine survived that way. With all my CUC killers have good luck with large Mexican turbos.

A canary wrasse won't completely wipe out their population, but it might make a dent in them. They camouflage too well and are more active at night.

i have a yellow wrasse a red line wrasse (h. biocellatus) and haven't had to recharge the ol CUC in quite awhile. still lots of snails and crabs cruising around. i do seem to have the empty shell appear from time to time, but it could be the wrasses or other crabs or they just died. they are both female still, so allow me to change my answer if they mature and mow down the entire CUC :D. the snails and crabs are also seemingly pretty smart, they became a lot more nocturnal after the wrasses arrived.

i'd totally go for it, they're beautiful, active, peaceful, and they eat bad stuff in the tank. i've never seen a bristleworm in my tank for example.

Thanks Matt! I've decided to get one.

I have the same 2 Wrasse. I didn't realize that's why I only see the snails at night. Learn something new all the time in this hobby!

i mean maybe correlation not causation, but it sure seemed to be a thing suddenly. i added them both within a week of each other and then suddenly i rarely saw snails and crabs cruising around, but then at night they're everywhere.

It's so my cerith snails that hide in the sand during the day and clean the glass at night. My nerites like to hang out above the water line during the day. I don't know what they do at night. I also see some hiding in crevices in the rockwork.
