My friend gave me a yellow eye cole tang that is maybe 3 inches. I have a 40 gallon tank with only 2 other fish. Can I keep him for a year or does he need to go now. I know Live aquaria says 70 gallons but he isn't even 1/2 grown. Thanks for the help

I would also let him go......in that sized tank, he will most likely not allow any new additions. My Kole has become a terror in my 105g tank lol. Probably not worth it for a fish that you will have to move out as it grows anyways.

Agree with eatbreakfast. For now it's probably OK. They aren't particularly fast growers but it's definitely true that the small quarters may lead to aggression towards tankmates. Eventually (one head or so) you'll need to either upgrade or rehome it.

Fish tend to get aggressive if they are a bit crowded. I have had fish that were terrors in one tank and docile in a larger one.
