Yellow Eye Tang

I woke up this morning to my yellow eye tang with white spots all over its body and fins. He/she was doing a lot of scratching and bouncing aroud and acting odd. Now this afternoon all the "white" spots are gone???!!

Is it possible during the night while tangs sleep they build up a film on their bodies and sometimes it is visible?

All my parameters are good. No ammonia or nitrite.

Can slime form overnight with tangs?

The other possibility is a lot of sand was stuck to his mucous coat.

I would say no longer than 12 hours. Last night at 8pm no spots. 9am spots. 12 noon no spots? Im a bit confused. I have a yellow tang without spots. He seems to be eating fine without issues.

3 hours is pushing it even for velvet. Are you sure it wasn't debris or something like microbubbles attached to the fish? I've had microbubbles attach for fish for a short time and it makes them look covered in spots for a short time. If you look closer though, it's a little more obvious that it's bubbles.

i just looked this morning and no they are not bubbles or debris. They kinda look like white patches. Not specs of sand or salt. Whats fascinating about it is my six line wrasse is picking what ever it is off the side of the tang.

I started carbon dosing about 3-weeks ago to bring my nitrates down and im wondering if this is causing the issue. Im gonna stop dosing vinegar and see what happens. Unfortunately, i do not have a QT tank.

Patches can indicate a bacterial infection or just a simple skin irritation. You can start feeding vitamins in the fish's food to help boost their immune system naturally.
