Yellow Hammer In Trouble

My prized yellow hammer is starting to recede due to what I believe was a dip in alk. I've stabilized the alk at 8 but it's still slowly receding. My question is this... is there anything I can do to hopefully stop the receding? I was thinking of dipping it in revive or starting to feed it mysis. Thanks for the feedback.

Best of luck to you. I had a giant colony die back one polyp at a time. I don't know what the cause was in my case though. It progressed just as you are describing though.

Yeah, it's very frustrating because all of my sps and everything else is thriving. It's only receeded maybe 10% but I'd like to try and get it to stop. I've even thought about moving it into another system to see if that might stop it.

I tried dipping mine in CoralRx daily for about a week. That helped slow the progress down, but didn't ultimately stop it. Never tried spot feeding it though. Could be worth a shot.

If you can, frag it and get some to another tank... Even if it ends up being a smaller colony for you, in the end you have insurance on the coral...

I don't want to run the risk of fragging it. I know someone else who tried fragged his and didn't make it.

I would move it to a low flow area and like they said to try and spot feed it. Other than that just leave it alone and dont mess with it as I think that will only stress it out even more.

I was looking for a yellow hammer for a long time and finally decided to buy an Aussie Neon Green hammer. Could you please post a pic of your yellow hammer?

I agree. Keep it in low light, low flow and don't mess with it. Hopefully it will recover. How is it doing by the way?
