My two yhj are now together in one little cave...one has a chomped tail...but grabs a little food while the other stays out and dances around a lot of the time...wondering what kind of behavior I should expect from the two together...does one always guard the cave?...will they take turns going out eventually?...any yhj people out there?...thankso_O

Jawfish like making tunnels in coarse rubble. They need a sand bed depth of three to four inches. They retreat into the brow when threatened. Generally, they will hang in the water column above their borrow watching for bits of food to go by. They usually make burrows in little colonies. I would think each jawfish needs about one and a half square feet of sand bed. They will make a burrow under a rock in a pinch but they prefer them in the open. If they are not in a situation to make a burrow, they might make do with a cave. In the wild, they do not share burrows.

A m/f pr may on occasion share a burrow temporarily, but each will maintain their own burrow. I've had some make burrows within a few inches of each other.
