i got a few polyps of yellow jackets and i am just wondering how to keep the yellow and black coloration on them. mine seem to be getting lighter and lighter. those of you who have them please give input. thanks

I have mine under very low flow and halfway under a shelf in the sandbed. They are open wide, color is great and they are reproducing quickly

First one I got melted. Very sensitive to light after shipping. So the second one I got, I started with very little light. Slowly acclimated. Took two - three weeks to get the color back. I used the same strategy to acclimate yumas. Hope this helps.

Its under a 175w 20k HQI. Never really tried moving it around. Its always done good where it is.

I have mine on a frag rack rack about 12 inches down from 6 t5's. Coloration is very nice, I love these palys.

I have mine pretty close to the bottom under 250MH. The original polyp turned kinda bluish at first, but sprouted a bunch of baby polyps pretty quickly. It seems like they adapted to the light. They're growing pretty large, and they're coloring up great! The black is back, and my colony is really looking like the zoaid pics. I was pretty happy with them at first, but now I'm really really happy. They're my new favorites lol.

i bought 6 polyps and 3 of mine melted. the others are staying small and light colored but are starting to really open up. i placed them under one of mymonti caps and it seemed to help. they like the shade

Did everyone's that melted, melt right away? I have had them over a month and they have just started to grow for me.

Same here, mine took quite some time to come out. It really wasnt until 2 weeks ago that is started opening up on a regular basis. Looks to be one new polyp coming. I have mine in med to light flow about 6-8 inches from 4 x T5HOs.

My GF has my d-slr right now, but I snapped an okay picture with my point and shoot. When I get my camera back I can post better ones.

IMHO, the bluer the lighting, the more yellow they get... the whiter the lighting, they tend to be on the greener side, like Mountain Dew... also, the babies tend to have the more solid look and the mature polyps tend to have the speckling effect... I just love the patterns on these guys... never know what you're gonna get really... no two polyps are alike... :)

btw, they are pretty fast growers for me... started with 3 polyps and went to about 9 polyps in a few months.... :D

so i guess at the bottom of my 20L under 175w 14k evc should be good? the light is about 12 inches above the surface of the water.
