i bought these yellow jackets quite a while ago from a good friend. before the whole "hornet" craze. just wanting some opinions on them. they are in really high lighting(500-550 PAR) and the patches are a little pale. do you think i should move them lower in the tank or just let them be? they grow really quick for me in the high light though. here is a pic

and could you post some pics of your jackets if you have some. almost every pic ive seen looks different.lol

I'm pretty sure those aren't Yellow Jackets. Have you seen what the 'true' yellow jackets look like?
They have a yellow skirt, similar brown base with the yellow splotches.
Your's look like they have a green skirt with brown base and blue-ish splotches that actually seem to form the same pattern on each one.

ok, i wasnt sure if they were "true" yj or not. i have seen so many different pics of them.lol some look green, some look yellow, but they all look different to me.i thought it was the lighting and camera making them look different. i actually sold a few frags of these for like 3 bucks/polyp a couple months ago and almost wanted to slap myself after seeing the outrageous prices people were selling them for =)

Agree, don't think yours are true Yellow Jackets. A closer picture might help us in helping you ID them though.

ill try and get a closer pic, but i dont have a macro lens. let me see what i can do.

Oh those are not mine :)

I wish! haha

All well, I'm sure you like them just as much without the name! That's what matters.

Thanks Emoney, Ben's picture looks a lot more like the OPs, maybe we were too hasty last night.

here's one that went out to a lucky reefer last week.... YJ's are a cousin of Mauls, so they are decent size... can get PE size... I believe that the OP's are smaller polyps, about the size of Tubs, Bam Bam, EE, etc... I've seen that morph before... YJ's are pretty new to me anyway... :)

The ones in the first post looks like zoas and mine are palys they are a lot bigger when adult polyps i got them from holdyourlight so they are the true YJ. I did see the ones in the first post at a LFS and they called them green eggs and ham...

Also growth pattern on both are differnt, YJ yellow color spreads out as it gets bigger so you see more speckles. You can see when it starts younger the yellow almost covers the entire polyp.

This no multiquote thing is a pain in the Kester! Thanks Marv and Ben for the info.
