So I've tried to frag yellow leathers years ago with poor success and finally tried on my large toadstool a few weeks ago. Both the cutting and the colony survived with no necrotic tissue on either. Just so excited had to share!! :)

Congrats!! Let me know when you're ready to ship!! ;) (joking but kind of serious! Haha!)

Out of curiosity -- what type of flow/light do you have your main colony under? You have a beautiful specimen!

Well if the frag will grow like the colony, I'll start cutting the frag in about a month. My setup is ultra simple a DIY 10K 50W LED on a standard 29g tank. Maxi jet 1200 is the only pump in the tank. Chemipure and purigen sitting in an old hob aquaclear. I change 10% weekly. Iodine once a month. That's it. So it's a "dirty tank" softies love it.

Beautiful. Id love to buy a frag if you ever have one for sale.

Just wanted to share progress on the Fiji yellow. So now I have fragged the original frag and this 3rd gen is growing! Now in two separate tanks. Think a better chance of survival. Fingers crossed this keeps growing and maybe a handful ready by summer !? ;) 1st photo, mother and 3rd Gen.
2nd photo second Gen in different tank

Did you do anything special when fragging it? My Fiji yellow is getting quite large but I've been hesitant to frag it as I'm worried about losing the colony.

That's awesome I didn't know they were even still in the hobby I have been looking for one for a long time.

So the biggest thing I did different than many times of failure over the years was, 1st made sure the colony was growing very well for about a year. 2nd removed the colony and did it outside the aquarium. 3rd used scissors instead of a razor. Never realized all blades have a bit of oil on them and can possibly cause issues with some delicate coral. HTH

Gorgeous specimen! This is on my list, found one available once, had a FedEx delay in shipping of 2 extra days and it did not make the journey :(
