I have had two toadstool yellow leathers for over 8 years, about two months ago the tank had a ALK drop. I was able to correct however the leathers have not recovered and will not open up. The outer edges are getting algae growth on them. Also, my tank has a lot of branching hammers and wondering if the chemicals from the hammers is bothering the leathers. Ca 430, ALK 8.0 MG 1320 and have been performing water changes every two weeks on my 180. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the topic

They can be finicky. I have one same thing happened. Closed up for no good reason. Was closed for months. Had algae growing in it. Snails crawling on it. Crabs were picking at and eating the edges. Then one day just came back out good as new. Can’t figure.

Thank you, concerned given I have had them for over 8 years and never experienced them being closed this long.

Lucky - I haven't seen a fiji yellow in years - if things go south maybe try dosing an antibiotic such as cipro or doing furan 2 dips (if they are small enough to dip)
