I just received a yellow long nose butterfly and a kole tang this morning from Divers Den. Kole tang looks perfect, but the butterfly showed up with pretty rough looking patch on its head. I was planning to wait a few days and start copper, but looks like I should start antibiotics right away instead. Both will be in a 29 gallon QT. I've got metroplex and kanaplex on hand, looks like I'm out of Furan. Should I start dosing the kanaplex and metroplex in the water immediately, and do you see any issue in keeping the kole tang in the same qt? Also, think I order some furan too just in case? Would my new plan be to go with antibiotics for 10 days, then move to copper after? Thanks for the help.

Hard to tell from the picture how deep the area is effected. Mild "scuffing" can be treated with Epsom Salts and some good vitamins and food. Hope this helps.

Nitrofurazone:
Treats open wounds or red sores.

How To Treat - Nitrofurazone is an antibiotic, and an active ingredient found in Furan-2 and Nitrofuracin Green Powder. Nitrofurazone is great for treating open wounds, and especially those “red sores” commonly seen on butterflyfish and some angelfish.

Pros - Highly effective; found in a number of bacterial disease medications

Cons/Side Effects - Appetite suppression; it has been discontinued in the US (for human use), which may possibly affect its availability for the pet industry

Thanks for the input, unfortunately the fish only lasted about an hour after I received it this morning. It showed up in pretty rough shape, my first purchase from DD, and not very happy with it.

Sorry for your loss. Right now is a really bad time of the year to ship live critters. Those shipping companies are really throwing packages as fast as they can.
