Hi guys, I recently bought this butterfly from lfs, it's been 2 weeks and it eat well so I start dosing copper, and few days later, when the copper level around 1.7, I noticed the appearance of this black mark around the tail and also the spine and I have no idea what cause this. But I did a 50% water change and added cuprisorb for the copper. It's been like this for 2-3 days, and it still eat a lot and behave well, any clue what's going on? maybe bacterial infection? I tried to add some seachem sulfaplex but not helpful. Sorry the glass is quite dirty and i took this with my cell phone, not that clear. Thx

Pics extremely fuzzy but a wild guess would be bacterial. If so, treatment would be seachem neoplex or kanaplex in a seperate quarantine setting
For clearer pics- Assure both lens and tank glass are clear and use zoom instead of getting too close to glass which acts as a magnifier

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

The images are pretty pixelated.

That isn't a result of copper, this species tolerates copper very well. Pulling the copper leaves it open to parasitic infections.

More likely, this is from Neobenedenia flukes - virtually every one of these fish I've had in the past 20 years has had these flukes (unless I treated them in advance). A five minute FW dip would confirm that (you'll see what looks like oval fish scales on the bottom of the container.

Copper won't handle those. I prefer to use hyposalinity (but you shouldn't do that along with copper). You could also dose Prazipro, but since Neobenedenia are tough, and are egg layers, you may need to run three treatments, nine days apart.

just did the fw dip, you're right, that's fluke, hope I can received the medication tomorrow, thx a lot

Hi guys, will do that. So far so good, hope I can receive the medication today. For the butterfly, you can ask your lfs if you can preorder or something like that. People from the store told me unless people pay the deposit, they won't order it
