Hi guys purchased a yellow spot / watchman goby yesterday and after about half an hour of being in the tank it was sifting through the sand like normal but today it’s nowhere to be seen. Is it common for them to go hiding for a while after first going into the tank ?

How long before he will actually come out again
Watchmen can be pretty cryptic at times. Mine take several weeks after major changes to hang out in the open regularly. when I first got him, I would only see him at feeding time for about a month or two. Then he would perch on a nearby rock much of his day.

When I moved, he hid for a good 3 weeks or so, and is back to perching out in the open.

Before I added my golden head goby, I used a siphoning tube to create a hole under one of my rocks so that he hides there and at the same time it is visible. They tend to hide the majority of the day during the first few days. I saw mine coming out after the lights turned off. This is totally normal but if you want, you can me it a home in a place where you can always see it.

I just added my yellow watchman goby a week ago. Unfortunately he has made his home under a rock against the back corner of my bow front corner tank. Every now and then I can see him in the reflection off the back wall glass. I’m hoping hunger, familiarity and bravery will draw him out more over time. No other bottom fish to threaten him. I keep trying to tell myself he has no interest in me; he’s trying to figure out why this ocean is so small
