Got this guy about a month ago and has been in QT. For the first 3 weeks it has been a fairly good eater. Not aggressive but would pick as things floated by. Reef Frenzy and Masstick seemed to be its favorite.

Flash forward to now and it stopped eating the last 5 or so days. I moved it into a QT with a single anthias. The first 4 days no change. Ate like before. Now all if a sudden nothing.

Swims out like its excited about the food but never eats. No longer picks at masstick either. I started metroplex 2 days ago but its poop is brown so dosen't seem like an internal parasite. Also noticed it attacks the sand I have in a bowl with its nose and shakes around. Is it hunting? Oh and it randomly stopped sleeping in the sand and sleeps in the PVC...

Any ideas what's up? I have some pods I may try but will have to remove anthias. Itll gobble them all up faster.

Have you tested for ammonia? How are you monitoring ammonia? Also Wrasses can harbor parasites and never show symptoms until they are overwhelmed. Did you ever do a FW dip to check for flukes? Wrasse will do a hunting maneuver in sand but it could also be flashing. I would recommend trying a dip just to see.

I monitor ammonia with red sea test kit. 0 ammonia. I havent done any dips . I dont notice any flashing other than the digging its nose

Sand burying wrasse can also suffer from mouth/jaw mechanical injuries. Take a good look at his mouth and see if he can open or close it completely

Mouth seems fine. Constantly picking at things. When I moved I put a giant sponge filter from display for bio filter. It had alot of pods on it. Wonder if he got a taste and now is like F this frozen stuff...

Do you have access to any live foods to try to get him eating?

I don't have any helpful advice to give. I also have a Yellowtail Tamarin and it's been doing well for a couple months. However, I have heard from others that they run into a similar problem you are reporting. They do well for a bit and then suddenly just stop eating and waste away.

I hope you can find a food that entices it. Mine actually goes mostly for frozen bloodworms for whatever reason. Even when I feed something like LRS Fish Frenzy to the whole tank, it will go around picking out the worms. This may be unique to mine but could always be worth a try.

Do you have cyclops? They are nice and small. Baby brine shrimp would be another suggestion. And my personal favorite, fresh ROE if you can track some down at a local fish market.

Are you doing any type of treatments or just observational QT? If you aren’t treating, maybe sacrifice a small piece of LR from your sump to get it grazing while you work on tracking down some other foods to try?

As mentioned the cyclops is a good go to, fresh is best if you can get ROE as ngoodermuth mentioned. I also like black worm and clams. Maybe try to partially hide a small peice of food into the sand

Was not sure, did the eating stop before or after the move to the anthias. If after may be some aggression from the anthia stressing it

Just some thoughts
