Hi I have this problem my wrasse is acting strange
He keeps either burying himself or just lying there on top of the sand as if he's gunna die. I've had him 2 months and has been fine hunting and eating copepods but today this is happening.

Should I be worried or wait out

I've tried to catch him but every time I get close he swims away

Any advice please thanks

Can you get a picture? - as clear as possible. Has he excibited any other symptoms that would indicate he's sick? Flashing, scratching ,White dots or a dusty appearance?
@evolved is the wrasse guy and might have some ideas.
Also, @eatbreakfast @3FordFamily can help with wrasses as well. :)

Hi I'll try beat to get a pic he's hiding and buried himself again
But no signs of scratching or white dots

It does not sound good. Wrasse can behave strangely like this and be fine but after two months that is questionable. Unfortunately, they can just deteriorate randomly and that is what this sounds like.

I don't have much to offer, I wish I had better news.

My female will, for no reason, bury herself for a couple of days at a time. Make sure his mouth is not damaged, if it is then your odds are not good. Sorry there can't be better news.

Laying on top of the sand is not a good sign. Anampses are a more challenging group of wrasses. There are a few within the genus that have a reputation for seeming fine for a couple of months, then suddenly have issues such as described in the op.

My hypothesis is that they have higher nutritional needs than most other wrasses, including leopards, and since they are benthic feeders are prone to internal parasites. They may have trouble getting enough nutrition from the few meals 'we' provide relative to the wild, and quickly deplete the population of microfauna they can eat in the tank. Eventually some just 'wear out'.

Ok thank you all for the info I will keep you all updated

So I've managed to get him out and put him in a quarantine tank which is attached the side of my tank

I've posted some pics to see what people think his mouth looks white is this normal
