My Tank Thread
Always struggled getting those as they ship very bad and even with me picking up directly on arrival I could rarely keep one alive for more than couple of days and only one did and ate and then it died after few days.
3 weeks back one arrived to an LFS here with amouth deformity, yet it still looked active and I wanted to give it a fighting chance so picked it up. it hid for couple days then started comoing out every 3-4 days and starting 5 days its out on daily basis, still goes out a bit before lights are on and hides few hours before lights out which is just because of time difference....
I noticed his mouth was wrong and closer inspection saw that his upper lip aint there. I know these break their jaws frequently but I would expect the lower mandible to be affected and not the upper!
it pics on pods all day long but I can't figure out if its able to eat them. Actively chases pellets and frozen and I see it swallowing more and more as if he's getting used to his condition. i try to soak pellets in multivitamins so theyre easier for him to swallow and also more nutritious as it had lost some weight. I see him struggle to swallow larger mysis as he can't shred food the way wrasses usually do. here's a pic with it holding a pellet that shows the mouth a bit. sorry this is best I could get.
Any idea if it stands a chance and if it'll make it lont term or if mouse will regrow? currently it's in my tank in Dubai with one lineatus, one rubrisquamis and a pair of leopards, no aggression at tall and he gets a decent amount of food from 3-4 feedings I give per day. if he stands s chance I would like to take him to my 400 G in Lebanon despite his mouth condition. do you think he might stand a chance with much more fish there?
